Keeping people light around SOME of it (and it's only SOME of it, no one does that 24/7 with everything) helps keep up group bonding and build confidence.
It's not all Sgt. Emery and heavy thundering darkness (and he got shot anyway) or this dire anxious insistence. No one here would tolerate working under conditions like that (at least I hope not) and so why do they suddenly believe that would work with a football team.
You can lighten this or that moment without reducing effectiveness or urgency.
If it works it works. If it doesn't it wouldn't matter if you had kept some of it light or not.
