It all starts there. 3rd down efficiency has to get to more like 40% (vs. 22%). Then good things happen.
Rams have been low-ranked in 3rd down efficiency since 2006 when they were 18th.
Though of course if you do the raw "Third Down Conversion Percentage" stat that's not all passing.
Anyway given that, the highest they have been ranked since 2006 is 24th.
So that's 4 head coaches (including Haslett) and 7 coordinators.
It;s also a long list of qbs starting with Bulger.
What that stat suggests to me is very simple. It's an OL issue. Rams have a long series of very injured up OLs from 2007 on.
On third down you need to be able to run with power on short yardage and pass protect when the defense knows you will be passing. With a long series of beaten-up OLs (and now a relatively inexperienced one) they are not good at that. This time, it means they are not good at it yet. As a rule that takes both a qb and a decently coherent, relatively healthy AND at least decently experienced OL.
