I'm assuming, given the "players love him" information, that this "lightheartedness" is nothing new with Fisher and it's just how he is. Few people get their ears chewed off by a fed-up coach, and respond with affection.

So yep, it's an assumption. Maybe some light mockery will help--it actually wasn't what I was responding to, I just don't want coaches to try to bring levity into what's obviously a seriously bad situation. But it fits the narrative (admittedly neither of us know for sure whether it's true) that Fisher is one of the fellas, every day's a fun day with him, and you never have to worry about disappointing him because you're all buds.

Maybe it's an exaggeration but I'm far from the only guy with the criticism that "he's too soft on them", and I stick by my "whatever he's been doing it ain't working" position. Perhaps he'd make a great dad, but as a coach he's been a long-term failure across multiple teams, rosters, GMs.

Prove me wrong, Jeffy. Prove me wrong.

What do you mean nothing new? Lol. You didn't have to pay very close attention to see it there from the first camp in 2012. Like I said it's a morale/comraderie thing, and I certainly don't think they have been losing because of it. This is not personal in any negative way, just an observation, but I suspect that you personally don't see how humor punctuating the work is compatible with urgency and the need to intensify. I actually think those things go hand in hand. Seriously bad situations are precisely the ones TO bring levity into. The worst thing players under pressure do is start pressing. This is the opposite of that. In fact I have seen the good effects of that in every walk of my life, so this just strikes me as natural. AND no he does not act like one of the fellas and that everything is okay with him---we already know THAT too, in abundance and in detail. Nor does the occasional moment of levity require him to act like one of the fellas...those 2 things are not linked. One does not necessitate the other.

And we apparently don't agree at all about why they've been losing.
