No its not that I don't think criticism of the team is not warranted. What I am saying is I think people of being a bit panic stricken over nothing
in regards to the speed with which Goff has progressed and what was expected. Unnecessarily so.
But if you enjoy the sky is falling scenario feel free.
Grits
The "sky is falling" cracks is getting a bit old, Grits.
I haven't read a single "panicked" anti Goff post yet, either.
Some of us are saying that Goff hasn't progressed as expected.
That he's definitely not ready to start.
Some of us have wondered if this might possibly be a result of coaching decisions.
I don't see what's unfair about any of those takes.
I, for one, still believe that Goff will one day be our franchise QB. But now I suspect that that "one day" might be further into the future than I had ever thought. But, as zn has pointed out, it is one thing to be a franchise QB and quite another thing to be an elite QB. I would now settle for franchise QB, frankly.
And I still expect a 10-6 record from Fisher with this roster. Anything less and he should be a goner.
To be fair, your post was a bit of a panic post...words like "regressing" and "overwhelmed" are a sky is falling type of post IMO.
Sometimes you have to stop and take things in and maybe watch it again to get a better perspective.... How'd he look when he had the first team out there??? Right down the field and a TD.
And that wasn't even really the first team, just a better o-line and a WR who made catches.
He had FOUR drops, so instead of a dreadful 6-16, he should have been at least 10-16 with more yards obviously.
A lot of experts before the draft said he along with Wentz and Lynch were going to need time...it seems they were right.
Him starting day one was people buying into media hype and just plain expecting it since he was first pick in the draft.
I have not seen the regression nor have I seen him look overwhelmed...he had back to back bad plays last night and one of them was just a great defensive play...I'm not going to panic on this guy at all like a lot of people seem to be.
Mine wasn't a "panicked" post, Rampage. Not even close.
Terms like "regressing" and "overwhelmed" are both measured and accurate, if you ask me.
He looked good on that first drive. I loved it. Thought maybe he had turned the corner and boosted his self confidence. But the remaining snaps were downhill from there. They just were.
Drops were an issue, of course. But the kid just got more and more overwhelmed. Even the "homer" announcers could see it and called it.
No shame in calling a spade a spade when it comes to Goff. He'll get there one day, I believe. But it's clearly gonna take more time.
Maybe Fisher can insert him in blowout games when we're either way ahead or way behind? Might help accelerate his growth process. I dunno...
