It looks to me that the run on DT's actually started at pick 35 (Washington is already stacked at that position).
Do you believe that T'vondre Sweat was ever an option for the Rams? Just recall the impact that Ashawn Robinson had on our defense during the Super Bowl run and thought that the coaching staff may have thought that he could duplicate that effort for us. Just wondering if they thought his recent DUI arrest may have pushed him down a bit more (I guess not).
I wonder if Rams saw Sweat as a NT or like you say as a DE like Robinson. I think most teams see him as a nose, someone who plays the middle with some huge size but some athleticism.
That's one question, is he a nose to replace Brown III or a DE to take Jonah's position,
Next, is in either case he cannot play at the weight he did in college. Reports were he was much heavier than listed. Maybe 370-380. He'd have to get down to maybe 350 and did Rams think they could trust him to do it?
Plus his reputation as a fun guy, not hitting the books, partying ... not exactly a Jared Verse/Fiske kind of "mature" guy,
So, those are the questions ---- character, size, and where they saw him. If I were to guess, and it is pure speculation, they saw him as a nose. And if they took him to play nose then Brown has to move to play Jonah's positon, then you have 3 guys - a rookie, and 2 guys who moved, Tuner to 3-tech and Browm to 5'4i.
Maybe they didn't want to have a dominoe effect and felt it was better to just plug Fiske in for Williams, keep Brown III at nose and convert Kobie to 3-T but him being someone who could make seamless transition.
In any event, no matter what, Fiske is going to give you better pass rush than Sweat, they can use him on 3rd downs. Sweat would be lonely a base-defense kind of guy.
