I didn't "select" the stats, I went to an ESPN website and copied them. It was the stats that go into the rating formula. You want yards? Here's the yards - Stafford 367 on 36 throws. Goff 277 on 27 throws.

And just for fun, for the season Stafford 3965 Goff 4575

Now explain to the board how whichever QB throws for more yards in a game had the best game. I stopped thinking that way when I was in middle school.

You can see from the stats I posted that they averaged about the same yards per attempt: 10.2 vs 10.3 (Goff)

So if Stafford threw for more yards it was because he threw more times.

He threw more times because the Rams were trailing and couldn't use the run game as much. Any long time fan will tell you that the trailing/losing QB often throws for more yards than the winner.

That's why they don't use raw "yards" in the passer rating formula - it's not necessarily indicative. They calculate Yards per Attempt which tells you more about how a QB is playing.

So I don't see how that stat line demonstrates a difference.

As for the Lions secondary being better than the Rams? Wow, we're right back to my original title - somebody hasn't been watching the Lions. Detroit dbs were garbage, especially in the latter part of 2023.

That all being said, BOTH QB's played at a very high level in that game. Stafford displayed incredible toughness and maintained a high level of play despite numerous hits and dings. I actually wonder how many times in NFL history, especially playoff history, both QB's had a 120+ rating in the same game.

And finally, Goff isn't a youngster still finding his way anymore - he's 29 and a veteran.
