The Rams have a good offense. They have a middling defense and this is where they need to spend the bulk of their money.
My guess is that they WILL keep Dotson, and whatever offense they acquire will be lower round picks to develop. Corbin was not an All-Pro level and they weren't willing to spend to keep him. He was just good. Dotson is an All-Pro level guy.
I see them going after an Edge as priority #1, and also Secondary in both the draft and FA. I think they try to keep Witherspoon, but he is second to Dotson.
I also see them going going after a starter level DT that can lock down the run to his side.
To be clear: their FA money will go to keeping their own guys first. Then acquiring some top and mid level guys second, which they will be able to do.
They really need another ILB to go with Jones. Clearly bringing back Reeder shows just how poorly they view their other guys.
All that said, they are NOT going to reach for picks (although they are accused of doing that in nearly every draft....heck, we heard that about both Turner and Allen, and to some degree about Nacua). A hundred times Snead has described his approach to the draft as putting multiple players in pods of approximately equal value at each pick point. As the draft progresses, they can see how many of their "pod guys" remain at each pick point that indicates that they should move up, or they can move down, or stand pat and get one of them. NEED absolutely plays a role. So they do NOT take the BPA regardless of position; rather they take the BPA in consideration of positions they need to bolster.
|Bottom line: the focus will be on acquiring D players as they really have a good O right now. The only nuance would be if some terrific O player is sitting there in the draft that they covet, and they simply cannot pass him up.
I'm of a mind that the greatest help to our Secondary would be a dynamite FS. A guy who can fly and really cover. Even above CB. FA or draft.
