Like everyone else here I would have been happy if the Rams continued to run the ball once they got to 1st and goal on that first drive against the Ravens. But the fact that the Rams lined up in shotgun formation is a non-starter.
I am re-watching the game and played close attention to the formations the Rams used on those final three plays before the field goal, all of which were passes.
Yes, the Rams were in shotgun formation but it was not an empty backfield. On first down Williams is lined up directly behind Stafford, on second down Williams is to Stafford's left, and then on third down Williams aligned to Stafford's right.
The Rams can and do run the ball out of shotgun formation.
They did it 3 times against the Ravens, twice against the Browns,
fifteen times in that second Cardinals game.
Rail against those pass plays all day long and I'm right with you. But the fact that the Rams were in shotgun shouldn't be a factor in that discussion.
