Not sure I want to see a wholesale return to that philosophy. In the desert, during some of those same years, Boldin and Fitzgerald were coached on how to take it to the tacklers in the secondary - make them pay.
Maybe it's a pick-your-spots kind of a thing: preserve life and limb when you can't win the collision, and put a shoulder ot stiff-arm on the defender when you can.
I'd rather watch Kupp, Puka, Fitz and Boldin-types than perpetual sliders. When they need the tough yards they know how toget them.
All that said, it's leg and ankle injuries, not impact-related upper body injuries, that have kept Kupp off the field.
