Rogers may have benefited more than anyone will ever know by sitting behind Favre for 3 entire seasons.
He had the opportunity to really learn the playbook, learn from a HOF player, refine his game, and to mature mentally and physically before he was thrown into the fire.

Today, if a QB is taken high, he is lucky to get 3 or 4 regular season games before he's asked to carry the load. Usually these teams have bad QBs, and so they throw the rookie into the fray immediately. These are VERY young men being asked to be more mature mentally than they are in reality.

Fans won't tolerate using a high first rounder for a guy who doesn't play. And, teams don't want to pay for it (and especially because of the way things are structured pay wise it's very hard to sit a 1st round QB for 1 season let alone 2 or 3 when you get no production from them).

So I largely agree with you. But, the realities of the modern NFL and the fan base are such that I would NEVER take a QB in the 1st round because of the cost and the expectations placed on that player. Sure, a Mahomes maybe even an Allen happen occasionally. But using a 1st round pick in hopes that's what you get is a very poor bet.

Better to trade draft picks if need be to get proven and experienced QB talent. You know what you're getting.

This is not to say that gambler Snead won't use a 1st round pick on a QB in the 2024 draft that he and McVay like. If they do, at least the young man will have a year to learn behind Stafford (hopefully 2 years) and greatly refine his game to an NFL type of game, before he becomes a starter.

Acquiring a franchise QB and then ‘fixing’ the OL are not mutually exclusive solutions…
