Bones made one call NcVay disagreed with.
That's all it took.
It left McVay on the sidelines hollering, "Who called that?" Bones thought he had the option to call for a trick play instead of a punt - medium risk, high reward play that went south.
McVay didn't like it - out the door went Bones.
Disagree. There had to be more to than one decision.
Probably right Dog, but that was clearly the "straw" that broke bones back.
I think that may have been a straw that broke for both of them. McVay obviously didn't like being blind sided by Bones's call any more than Bones liked being reprimanded and yelled at by McVay for it on national tv. None of us knows what other things may have transpired between those two during the season that led up to what looked to us like a knee-jerk reaction. Coaches and players are always talking about saying and doing things in "the heat of the moment" but at the end of the day, all is forgiven and all is well. Well, if that's all it was, then McVay and Fassel should have been able to let their tempers simmer down, talk about what happened, come to an understanding and then move on. They didn't.
