I am not trying to bash McVay here but it is fair criticism, IMO.
If we win that game, only running the ball 10 times is still alarming and the Lafleur "excuse" is hollow and unbelievable. IMO, it STILL would have been called out as a mistake.
10 rushes in a game is the epitome of an unbalanced offense and we all know you need to be balanced in the NFL. 10 Rushes is still unacceptable IMO regardless if we won or lost.
This is not the first time McVay has done this. He has done with Goff too so I am not buying the "it's Stafford's fault for changing the plays" excuse either.
Even if Stafford was responsible for "changing the play to a pass" most of the time, at some point McVay should have straightened him out and told him not to do it because he was getting killed.
Also, there is no excuse for not helping Thomas out on that line...especially if you knew Stafford was going to be passing it that much. That is on McVay too.
McVay might be the best HC we ever had but he does have some "brain farts" now and then just as all the great ones do but that doesn't excuse him from that awful game plan execution and adjustments.
I am not concerned enough to want McVay gone or call him a moron because I know this is just one of those times he got "lost within himself" again. He will bounce back and redeem himself for sure. He always does.
