We all look to the Niners as having some kind of formula for success, but drafting high picks is not one of them.
If the Cardinals didn’t have Cliff Kingsbury, they would have pick Nick Bosa. And what were those “awesome” Niners doing having the 2nd pick in the first round in the first place. That was a can’t miss miss pick. And they didn’t miss.
But look at their other first rounder: Solomon Thomas - gone, Mike McGlinchey - gone, Javon Kinlaw - rotation guy, Trey Lance - gone.
I congratulate them on Deebo and Kittle. So, they’re not all that bad. But they’re white-knuckling it this season with a QB coming off major arm surgery.
Who are the better GMs in the league? The guy from the Eagles? The Chiefs’ GM?
It’s more of a crap shoot for most guys. Belichick is not sure thing when it comes to drafting.
I don't look to the 9ers as any formula for success. Unless that formula is losing Super Bowls.
Of course it isn't easy. But Les has built a Super Bowl winner via trades for established players. If we look solely at the drafts I think it is fair to say he has to do better. Will the Rams simply return to doing what they did before? I have no problem with that. But losing seasons have a way of driving analysis so I expect if this season goes south we might see some front office changes. Or maybe we'll see McVay depart, though I don't think that would be instigated by the Rams.
