Always remember the Rams lived up the the stadium deal they had and St. Louis could have kept the Rams based on that deal but they chose not to. Everything else is a distraction from the facts.
I'm not sure STL could have kept the team even if they wanted to.
Stan wanted to own the stadium. He wanted the revenue beyond the 8 games a year. He wanted the draft, the truck pulls, the concerts and the NCAA tourney.
I use as my example what he did in Denver when he bought the Pepsi Center. Instead of making a contract with a staged events production company for lights, sound, etc. for concerts he BOUGHT an entire company purely to be his in-house technicians. Stan doesn't rent.
If Stan wanted to stay he easily could have bult his state of the art stadium there. Likely for much cheaper, and he would have been a home town hero. One way or the other, Stan wasn't staying in that stadium. If the league didn't let him move, he would have built his own..
I feel for the fans of St Louis who supported the team then got the rug yanked out from under them, but Stan operates in an economic world most of us can't even fathom.
