I'm not sure any other coach in the NFL was better at building and putting into place not just a 'winning' team but a serious contender.
When speaking of players we often use the word 'niche'... and rightly so. I think that same word can be used for coaches... nearly all of them. Example:
Martz was 'niche'... Vermeil was not... he was more. And in NO WAY am I belittling Martz here, or any other 'niche' coach.... many of them have over the years been the 'key ingredient' to a Lombardi. But in my opinion coaches like Vermeil are rare... perhaps the rarest of the rare. They see it all... perhaps not the best at any one aspect of the game OR all the other factors required in putting together a team... but highly proficient in every aspect.
At this time I'm wondering if McVay fits that category of coach. He just may. - JamesJM
