Shelton plays with more dog in him and that could contribute to a slight advantage in the run game.
Problem is in last couple of years he misses too many blocks. Being more "dog" would be nice, if it's even true,
When you have inferior results - size or dog - then coaches have to play the guy with superior results
and that guy has been Allen, not Shelton.
Getting second level is set by scheme . . . if a center does not double the nose he's not going to second level
in any case. If it's a double...then by assignment he gets to the middle linebacker.
Shelton would not have different assignments than Allen and on an offensive line you are not allowed to
freelance.
Allen should be replaced because he gets hurt too much. But if Shelton does not improve then he should not
get the job either. If Shelton has worked hard, learned the position and is better than Allen, then
at the point he should be the starter.
If that is where he is now, then by all means---but bottom line is the best man will win
and just because Shelton has not been good in the past does not mean he cannot get better.
Brian Allen will never be great, he is what he is, and he dropped from 5th best center to 17th
so he went from decent to average.
Shelton is one of worst in the NFL (as is Bylthe)
