Leoram
It's my belief that her "opinions" are largely intel spoken as anonymous or in passing, including body language of both players and coaches.
She has access we don't have and works with the rules that beatwriters have to adhere or lose communication
1. She's smart-just an intelligent, bright person
2. She pays attention - like you say picks up on things - she's THERE
3. She talks to coaches, and she's repeating things she's gotten from them, as you mention
4. She understands football, she knows the facts
5. She has experience at camps, knows how it works
6. She does not seem to have any agenda, does not play favorites
She takes 1-6 and others things I didn't mention
and formulates and opinion.
Other writers of the fan sites may have #1 and some of them may have #4 and some
may have #6 so they formulate opinions based on fewer criteria.
He opinions have more value, more weight because she knows her stuff
and has access others don't.
If other writers went to practice and educated themselves then their opinions
would carry as much weight as hers. But I do think she's special because
she works so hard, and curious about football, learns and can communicate
it to her readers.
Much of the time, we are getting the views of McVay or Wendell filtered
though her, too. In other words, to your point, she adopts views held
by the decision-makers, those who are the experts.
