How does it matter that they questioned his commitment when the answer to that question is so positive?!?
From the article: "The thing I’ve learned about him, one, is football is important to him. So that’s good to know with him, because there were times I wondered about that. So football is important to him."
Embree went onto say that though he questioned it in the past, that he proved his commitment and “handled it very well” when the team transitioned to a new coaching staff.
He (Embree) was asked to clarify.
“Why did I wonder that about him,” Embree asked. “I just sometimes wondered about preparation, how hard did he prepare. Part of it – it’s not his fault, it’s just getting to know people. That’s really the biggest thing with the first year when you’re coaching new people is just really getting to know what’s important to them, how they work, how they prepare, different things like that, do they have things going on off the field that can be distractions, all that stuff. So it’s been a little process getting to know Hunter and it’s been a lot of fun, really, the last six weeks with him, dealing with him and all that. He’s handled – he’s gotten the short end of the stick a couple times and he’s handled it very well. Like I said, I’m excited to see what happens with him next year.”So, Embree was concerned and maybe had good reasons. But according to Embree, Hunter worked through whatever issues there were
and is "excitied to see what happens with him next year"
My reading would be that people can change, can have an issue as a rookie and then get better and maybe actually
be strong in an area they have a problem in.
I have no idea what this kid will bring to the Rams, but my reading of the tea leaves is the kid maybe had off the field
distractions (maybe partying, women or something like that, young kid, money) as a rookie but his second year
he was good, fune to work with, handled getting the short end of the stick on a couple of times (maybe on playing time)
and that Embree was looking forward to seeing if the kid would be good in 2023
I think the author of article hinted at the improvement, but people didn't catch the drift.
Assuming Snead somehow screwed up or didn't do his due diligence without digging
into the full story can leave one lacking the actual full facts and any opinion
based on limited information is going to be limited.
Comes down to fairness again.
Trust me, Snead knows more about Hunter Long than anyone here and the author of the artilce.
