Re: My thoughts on the "remodel"

March 13, 2023 07:20AM
Well, this one phenomenal post. And, I'm thrilled that so much seems to match my own thoughts.

3. They lost Peters and Talib, they have lost Fowler, they have lost Woods, they have lost Gurley. They know how to navigate these waters.
As miserable as the player losses have made me, they did well enough to do exactly as you say, "Navigate."

Some players, however, represent the glue that makes things all fit. I thought players like Robert Woods, and John Johnson make a "team." Eric Weddle is that type of guy, and showed us exactly why in his short, magnificent run.

I think the loss of Von Miller really threw the team off.
Yes, agreed on this entire section of your post. AND, Miller certainly was a glue guy, as well. He brought that element of star power, and confidence that guys just sponge off of. While Wags was / is a superior talent it just didn't fit as well with the "need" on the field factor.

And just have to mention, Whitworth. His absence wasn't just an on-field subtraction.

4.
Ramsey -. He'll be great in that Fangio defense in Miami, and is still one of the best run defending DBs in the game. He will absolutely missed on the field.
Sing that song. He had some real gaffs last year, but he repeatedly was a bomber on run defense. Will be missed, is right.

The Rams also kinda took a page out of the Patriots playbook.
Think this is true. It's a dicey road. Retention, assessment, cap, and ROI. Get it right and they love you. Wrong and it's a poisonous affair

5. The offense remodel:
I really think the Rams want to focus on offense this draft and will look at OG/OC early in the draft. I also think they will look hard at RB/TE/WR if the right player is there. A RB like Gibbs might make McVay salivate, Robinson, if he leaves one way or another, then WR becomes a major need.

See, someone agrees with me. I remain convinced the big problem is on offense. This team can not compete scoring less than 17-14 pts a game. I'm skeptical that they'll use an early pick on the OL. Snead, long on the philosophy of getting OL talent later, won't make a course change: I tend to agree that the calculus for what needs to happen minus Robinson is beyond me right now. Reviewing the notes you and Alyo have made on WRs are required reading. Expect Robinson to be cut. I do like Bobo. But a rookie isn't going to be the difference maker that is the catalyst

6. Scott has no valuation, Gay 4 yrs avg 5.1
Even after they slice out cap room, there's little to suggest that they've made offers to any of their FAs. I think most will agree that retaining Gay has the highest value. If, they can not improve on last year's abundance of 3 and outs, they're going to be left either going for it on 4ths, or putting a defense with holes back on the field too often, especially late in games when small points win games.

8.Stafford gone? AD gone? top 2 QBs. Williams and Maye.
And there's the big drama of 2023. If the whole season turns to garbage, the future that is 2024 erupts during the campaign to return to the playoffs
