To me it was more of a grass being greener on the other side of the fence situation. Woods and Kupp were very interchangeable. They have similar strengths their games are similar. The idea of a player with a completely different skill set probably intrigued McVay to the point he overlooked the obvious, who wouldn't want 2 Cooper Kupps in an offense. This also is insurance if either goes down the other can replace them in all of the plays. The AR move was a major mistake and I have always felt it was more about Kupp and Woods being contemporaries and for equal skill would expect equal pay, since management had chosen Kupp they needed to get rid of Woods on the roster because any WR they bring in after he is gone will happily take the position behind Kupp as far as attention goes, whereas Woody wouldn't accept that and would press to compete for more balls thrown his way. I want a guy that won't settle for being considered the 2nd best. If a leader can't handle competition then he isn't much of a leader. I remember it was rumored that we got the great fortune of Marshall Faulk because the Colts were going to bring in Peyton and they wanted him to be the undisputed leader of the team. However when Marshall got to the Rams, Kurt who was far from an elite draft pick had no problem leading the GSOT beside Faulk. For me AR was a mistake, and I would trade him and Van if it meant we could have OBJ and Bobby Trees for this two year run.
