I know that Morris takes a lot of heat for playing a soft zone and I admit it is tough to watch at times. I think the lack of a quality pass rush and inexperience in the Defensive backfield has made Morris believe that this is the best defense to play given the talent and experience of the team. I would also say that the defense is not why the Rams sucked so bad....it was the offense who could score points or control the ball and the clock.
Anyway Morris would seem to be the most well rounded coaching candidate available. He got a HC shot as a young man on a bad team and got fired. But he did gain valuable experience which should be considered. He has coached on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball which also makes him unique. He has been exposed to McVay for a couple of years and gained value leadership experience as well as being exposed to the Rams offensive system. He coached a Super Bowl Defense just a year ago.
On top of his experiences and success he is a very articulate man who seems to generate positive vibes and really connects with the players who will go to battle with him.
Many coordinators have to make a big jump and are like the dog who chased the car and finally caught it and say what do I do now. Morris is ready to go and I think he is more ready than any coordinator in Football to successfully lead a team to success.
