Yeah, she told the BEST stories.. just classic stuff you don't hear - for example, her family's close friend was a Luftwaffe pilot who flew the ME-109's.. he was shot down and had to eject on the way down.. The ejection and subsequent chute opening was so violent that everywhere there was a strap, his body was solid black n blue bruises.. He showed her and, according to her, you could see the strap bruises all over..
She told me another story about her family.. they lived in a house that was next to a river with a bridge nearby.. A small group of Russians came through and the people in the house knew they'd be killed, if they were found, and the house taken over, so they snuck out and crossed the bridge and hid on the other side of the river until nightfall.. The Russians took over their house and eventually went to sleep.. Late at night, the guys in the family snuck back across the bridge and into the house and killed every single Russian in it..
I don't know how old she was when the truth came out.. I would imagine after the war was over.. It was such a trip watching old war documentaries with her on Discover or History channels etc.. she'd say she didn't want to watch that, but then would practically recognize everyone in it - and then tell us what was really going on at the time..
She was a woman of great character - I don't think you can grow up under those circumstances and not be...

I couldn't even imagine what it would have been like being a young kid , and only know the Nazi propaganda
being told since birth that you where the superior race
Hitler even won Time Magazine's man of the year in 1938
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
