About 20 miles N/W of me is "Eagles Field".... many of the pilots during WWII were trained there. It also became a prison for German prisoners of War. It is long closed although the runway is still used, (somewhat), and the hangar is used for a WWII gathering every year. There is also a museum there.
Many years ago, before the area was pretty much disked up leveled I was out there looking around... at that time some 'remains' of the old buildings still remained. Digging thru the debris I came across a photo.... a young man in uniform and his wife, perhaps a 'date'. Every elegant, beautiful couple. The photo haunted me... who were the people in the photo? What was their story. Now this was BEFORE the museum was opening.
I put away the photo and pretty much forgot about it. Remembered it one day and then wrote about it, on this board. Took the photo to the museum one day and gave it to them.. hoping they'd perhaps discover who the people were. And then... forgot about for some years.
Returned just a year, maybe two years, ago to see if the photo was on exhibit with 'names'... it wasn't. I asked the curator about it, he knew nothing of it. I wish I had kept the damn photo. - JamesJM
