... there is now very little question where the off-season focus can be during free-agency and the draft. Assuming Watkins signs up long-term ... they are suddenly awash with weapons on offense. Young weapons. The focus in the post-season can now be solely on defense ... with the secondary need of adding to the offensive line.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
And his work as a pass receiver has been an extremely pleasant surprise. That's one of the reasons why the suggestion to add Adrian Peterson was so off-base.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
When a quarterback doesn't feel as though he has to be *perfect* with every throw ... that his receivers will bail him out a time or two ... that is the kind of thing that builds confidence. He gets in a groove of just gripping and ripping - rather than guiding and hoping. Now ... was the catch by Watkins great? Well ... only about as great as a catch *can* be. Couple years back, read a bio about Brown called The Fierce Life Of An American Hero, and was greatly disappointed in it.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Most people who know what this means say he might well have been the greatest lacrosse player, as well. There was nobody better on a football field than Jim Brown. Jerry Rice might be a distant second. But Brown is tops. And, unlike some icons who don't even provide lip service to giving back to their communities - *coughMichaelJordancough* - Jim Brown put his life on the line many times ovby The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Or just a player's stats. The best description I have ever heard for the Hall of Fame is, 'Can you tell the story of the National Football League without him?' You can't tell the story of the National Football League without Dick Vermeil. What he did in Philadelphia was beyond remarkable. You put a clip of Namath side-by-side with one of Marino ... and they are virtually mirror images. Marino was Namath with legs and the ability to deliberate with the football in his hands. Namath trusted his arm waaaaaaaaaay too much. His judgment wasn't always the best. But in terms of release ... Marino was Namath 2.0.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Maybe a more apt comparison is that the Pats' defense is every bit as bad as the Saints' defense is.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com

" wasn't great on Sunday. He still missed some easy targets, still left plays on the field. But ..." I'd be interested in a list of quarterbacks who played either Saturday *or* Sunday who didn't 'miss some easy targets' or 'left plays on the field.' The rules keep changing for this kid. My guess is that he knows that roster and team and tendencies better than Gruden does. One thing's for sure - the Rams will not lose to Washington because they were out-prepared.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
In McVay there are echoes of George Allen and Dick Vermeil. With a little Jon Gruden thrown in for good measure. Clearly ... the players really like this cat. They buy in.by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
... with some of the folks who frequent this place is the same thing I predicted would happen last spring and summer. When Goff *would* play well and the Rams *would* win ... everything else under the sun *but* the kid would be given credit for it. I have little doubt that's exactly what will happen this week. I watch McVay and listen to him on these things ... and there are echos of Gruden, certainly ... but also George Allen and Dick Vermeil. ... *isn't* a work-in-progress. That 'stay tuned' comment is stated so dramatically that it appears its author believes Goff is the only athlete on the planet who is on some sort of upward or downward curve. Stay tuned? What else is there to do?by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Seems like a decent, well-meaning man. And, in his prime, he was a solid NFL coach. But I don't think there's really any argument to be made that he really understood, or cared to understand, the way offensive football is being played today. He was always going to do what any Buddy Ryan disciple would do ... most notably Rex. Run the football. Play action pass off those runs. Pby The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
My main point, though, is that no matter what Goff might have absorbed above the shoulder pads ... whatever that might have been ... there's a good chance that at least some of it was completely lost by having to be in mere survival mode all the time. Most of what Goff learned, I'm guessing, was an introduction to the physical realities of the NFL game. The physical toll it takes. The effort iby The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
Lots and lots of young quarterbacks have been beaten up. Some never recover and get thrown away as 'busts' when, in fact, they never had a chance to get over because they were locked in hopeless situations. Some, like Goff, apparently, get a reprieve. Of course Goff is a second-year player, my friend. But ... that was a rhetorical statement, my friend. The point being, my friend,by The_Bad_Guy - RamsFootballFans.com
