Most people who know what this means say he might well have been the greatest lacrosse player, as well.
There was nobody better on a football field than Jim Brown. Jerry Rice might be a distant second. But Brown is tops.
And, unlike some icons who don't even provide lip service to giving back to their communities - *coughMichaelJordancough* - Jim Brown put his life on the line many times over to go into areas dominated by street gangs to at least try and broker some sort of peace.
Doesn't make him perfect, of course. Some messy stuff in his past.
But still a fairly amazing individual.
