Or just a player's stats.
The best description I have ever heard for the Hall of Fame is, 'Can you tell the story of the National Football League without him?'
You can't tell the story of the National Football League without Dick Vermeil.
What he did in Philadelphia was beyond remarkable. Not only what he did turning that franchise completely around ... but he did it dealing with one of the most mercurial owners in the history of professional sports - Leonard Tose.
The Eagles of the late 1960s and early 1970s weren't bad. They were putrid. If they weren't the worst team in football ... they were always in the bottom two or three.
Vermeil turned that around. I don't know if anyone short of George Allen in his prime could have done that.
What he did with the Rams and Chiefs is well-documented.
What's forgotten is what he did in Philly.
He's a Hall of Famer.
