To me, the difference between being 14-2 and 11-5 is the horrific play and coaching of the Rams when trailing late in the game. fix that and the Rams are at least a round deeper in the playoffs. A large part of the off season should be getting better in crunch time when trailing. This team was so good playing with the lead and so so bad in close games when trailing. was this the game that McVay and Goff set the Hurry Up back 30 years. I love McVay, but he is downright awful when trailing late in games as is Goff. Use the entire playclock when trailing late in game.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't think he is lacking as a competitor. He just can't judge a ball. I think he sees double.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
Kind of like Quick. Short passing game and set up run after catch is best use of him.. Great hands and strong - strengths Ability to cut and make second move and ability to adjust on a deep ball - weakness as well as his overall confusion on what the plays are I personally think there is more to the Watkins story and his problems last year. I was once all in on Watkins and still bby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
He is like a bad youth outfielder in little league that can't judge a fly ball. One of the reasons I would reinvent him and make him a short passing receiver to use his strength and hands.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
I actually think he power and hands make him more valuable as a short passing game type player. I would try to use him more like Cardinals user Fitzgerald.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
Has the NFL ever had a contract with Opt out Clause as with other sports? I wonder if Watkins would do like a 3 year deal with a prorated signing bonus that isn't as lucrative, but if the Rams make the playoffs and he gets 1000 yards, he gets the ability to Opt out of the contract where he returns a portion of the bonus and can seek to redo the contract with the Rams. To me that would be aby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
Is there anything else he can learn at this point after the knowledge on how to play QB from Fisher?by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
1) Is foot going to ever be the same? 2) Is he able to stay clean off the field? But to replace him with some prodders will make the offense less dynamic. There needs to be a plan B. Having Watkins, Woods, and Kupp is special. We saw what happened when Hakim left in 2002. The offense wasn't the same and Kurt Warner had a very bad year as the dynamics just changed slightly.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com

so that is the exception. Plus, his ability in the passing game will provide more production than any tight end and most WRs.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
another example of how coaching can impact performance. Martz coached him up. After Martz left, he lost is preparation and fundamentals and he deteriorated. When a player loses coaching, there are 2 kinds of impacts: 1) Player development - This can take some time, but if a player changes the patterns of preparation, over a period of months or years, his performance can be impacted negby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
that 1 catch out of 60 makes one have great hands and the other one has a droppies problem.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
to me are the WRs that are elite on that list. As bad as Watkins played this last year, he could still be lumped in with many of the others. Again, get him cleaned up and healthy, I would spend the money on him, but he has to perform like he did in Buffalo where he averaged 1000 yards on a bad team with a bad QB play and doing it in less than 16 games. If he continues to perform like lastby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
While I am highly disappointed in Watkins, if the answer are those guys, they need to pay him lots of money. I think they need a high end WR, not a hodge podge of just guys. I don't know if Watkins is that guy, but if he isn't go elsewhere and get somebody who gives the defense a concern that the Rams have a player who can be the guy Watkins should be if he could get his act together.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
because of the things you mention, but that doesn't change the fact That he was a disappointment. Even if he is better than what we have had in the past. And I think before big money in invested in him, they need to keep tabs on him and try to understand the confusion he seems to always have and why he can't judge a ball. He is talented player, but not getting the results that is worthby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
Amendola can have 4 drops with less catches than Kupp with 5 drops and what is classified as having great hands and the other is "Butterfingers". It is that 1 drop that is the difference.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
I get that he was open a bunch and missed, but I too don't think he plants and makes cuts well in his route running. Is that because of his foot issue and is it permanent or will that get better over time? Also, he cannot judge a long pass and make adjustments. It is almost Quick like. He also seems to be confused on the plays. I have my theories on confusion and inability to makeby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
if they got to review them all. As much as I am in favor of instant replay, I would be against it for Penalties with the possible exception of a pass interference call that was made and should not have been made.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com

The bottom line, because McVay opened up the running game by passing more, he gets more yards per carry. He created space. He creates defense guessing and on their heals. And it probably is even more than it appears because some of the runs per carry average comes down because the team is leading and burning 4th quarter clock. were they taking up too much space on counter top. I do have clutter in my house I guess. Is that the reason? The NFL could have given them to whoever wanted them. The NFL loves to make money. The should have auctioned them off to make a few dollars and let them be somebody else's clutter storage problem and made lots of money off of them. Kupp caught 62 and dropped 5 for 869 yards Amendola caught 61 and dropped 4 for 659 yards So Kupp dropped one more pass. Maybe Amendola had the benefit of more easy catches that could rationalize 1 extra drop. He did play for the best coach in the NFL and a top 5 NFL QB so there is that possibility. But it isn't like Kupp dropped 12 and Amendola dropped 1. It was 5 vs 4.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com

Yes. he failed on a couple of key plays this year, but he is the better player. Now, if he fails in the clutch time after time, i.e. Matt Ryan like for 8 years, maybe I would change my mind, but we are talking about a couple of plays in a rookie season. This idea that he drops everything that gets thrown to him is completely out of line. In fact, I would say hands is a strength for Kupp.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
Getting open Running After catch Bigger target to catch in traffic More Speed ability to throw more kinds of passes because of height Which is why he is 1000 yards on a team nowhere near as good as the Patriots with a lesser coach and a lesser QB. and Amendola is a 400-600 yard guy Someone in a previous thread, suggested where are these people that overrate Amendola. I would referby Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
I am not saying Amendola is not a clutch performer. I am saying Kupp is a much better Wide Receiver than Amendola and it really isn't that close. John Paxson won some NBA titles and made a end of game 3 to win a game 6 in the final I believe but was he better than Charles Barkley or John Stockton or Patrick Ewing because he made a clutch shot and won NBA titles and the other guys did not.by Rams_81 - RamsFootballFans.com
