Love this post! Points to ponder. Good for ribbing some niner friendsby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
That is exactly why I didn't think KC would get this far.... with the loss of Hill, they don't really have people that can consistently stretch the defense. Hardman flashes, but just not like Hill. Juju is inconsistent and not really a go to person for Mahomes Marquez is a better target for Mahomes but doesn't stretch. If Philly boxes in Kelce with 2 defenders like what Cincy did... But can they cover Kelce :) Hmm, so high ankle sprain Mahomes may be in trouble. My gut tells me Philly would win, since I keep looking at KC and thinking they have many holes and really it is Mahomes/Kelce combo that is just lights out. Spags can only do so much with what he has. I don't know, maybe it's like the Rams where you look at the team so much that you know where the holes areby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Yeah, it is so nuanced and there really is not a right answer. just opinions. I like Bengals D paired with how Burrow's behaves. You need to pair aggressive defenses with Burrows because he's just not as patient throwing the ball underneath. So you want to give him an aggressive defense so if they do blow a large play, then Burrows would do what he does best which is gunsling. So I like how Bby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com

I don't know.. how much of this is Saleh, how much of this is Ryans, how much of this is the talent? Seems like there wasn't much drop off after Saleh left. With Saleh, he inherited a really bad defense, then last year they were the worst defense in the NFL. Then this year, they are the 4th best. So maybe it is coaching? It's all good though, anything that takes away from the Niners is aby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Watch college football... a bit easier to digest. Closer to home, it is fascinating to watch Chip Kelly's and Lincoln Riley's offense. They run basically the same thing over and over again with just tiny little wrinkles here and there. So it is "easier" to grasp. But they do look at where they have the numbers advantage and have zone and man routes in the same play. Everything sby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
First time in many years in which I don't care who wins in the Super Bowl. Makes for a relaxing 2 weeks. No Brady, No Niners, No Patriots etc... Thank you Eagles! And I guess Cowboys too for taking out Brady.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Really up to the coaching staff, but it isn't the players that are huddling behind some chalk board listening to the coaches.. like hollywood movies seem to protray. They've practiced everything already and its a matter of running certain coverages and alignments more than others during some key situations... which the players will find out when they get those calls on the field. Nice vids.. Yes there are so many things that coordinators are doing that an average fan may not see. What most people see is the outcome and if the outcome is the same, then they think that the coordinator didn't make any adjustments. But that's far from the truth. It's hard to find a coordinator that isn't adjusting during the game. And it is even harder to find the opposing offensiveby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
There's a difference between opinions and facts. It is your preference and opinion that you would like to not have a defense that plays soft cushions. That is fine, nothing wrong with that. I would probably agree as well as I belong in the school of thought that if you have an offense that can score at will, then you can be more aggressive on defense and let some explosive plays go. Because Stafford can't play the RPO. Niners were really worried about containing Hurts' runs. They adjusted their pash rush to hold the end vs having folks like Bosa speed rush and leave wide gaps open. When Eagles overloaded a side, Niners would overload on the strong side to box Hurts in. This however, left a 2 on 2 matchup at the line with the offense having numbers if they pulled. Hby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Found this by searching "Fred Warner shuts down CeeDee Lamb" on you tube as that's what I saw last week that really stood out to me. There's just things that people can't run because teams don't have a 99 rated LB that can do everything. 24:06 mark.. he is at the line, faking a blitz. On the opposite side of CeeDee Lamb. Lamb streaks up the seam and Warner is with him stride fby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Niners do this alot. They'll have Warner and Greenlaw fake an A-gap blitz and then drop in coverage. Or they'll take both of them a blitz A-B on the same side. They'll sometimes have Hufanga on the other side also drop creating a mid tier shell. Or have him blitz the opposite b-gap to create a 3 vs 2 I don't remember this play on whether they dropped 2 or 3 players. but ultimately, tby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
I also saw that the key deep plays made, especially in the AFC games, were against press man brackets. I also saw that Hurts had players open deep, but didn't pull the trigger even though he had time. Instead, when he threw deep, it was pre-determined by him at snap. Any of the AFC QBs would have found those deep balls. That's really the key against SF... just need time in the pocket to fiby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Going with the Eagles even though KC as the experience. KC looks too banged up. Maybe Mahomes gets better in 2 weeks and maybe he gets some of his receivers back. Even still, he doesn't have a deep threat. I don't think KC's D-line is good. And the Eagles O-Line did pretty well against the Niners front. Eagles may do what the Bengals did and double Kelce, then leave everyone else one onby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Changing my last name to Belichick.. maybe I'll get hired in the NFL. While we are going the LaFleur route, I'd say Patches O'Houlihan should be high on our list for D-Coordinator. Our defense would be dodging linemen like crazy... or maybe just wrenches.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Where the niners defense is weak is in long passing plays. However, the strength of the niners is the pass rush to prevent long passing plays to be developed. So QBs end up checking down which is where the niners secondary is positioned. The LBs and CBs are programmed to go downhill on the first break of a short route. Because they expect that the QB won't have enough time for a secondaryby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com

I'll be the first to say that Chargers should in general run the ball more in general since I like Ekeler and Kelley. So, I do find it funny what Leoram posted where Charger fans wanted to throw the ball more instead of run. Maybe the Chargers should have ran the ball more against the Jaguars. At the same time, maybe their Defense should have stopped the Jaguars offense. Using the taleby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
As a HC, you gotta blame someone.. otw, you resign. And maybe 0.1% of American HCs out there would consider falling on the sword themselves. This was my fear for Morris 2 years ago when he got the job. If something went wrong with the Rams.. and let's say it was really the offense that was at issue... then Morris would have been the scapegoat in my opinion. Let's say they lose the game but then ran the ball 20 times in the second half. Then people will say... ah, you went conservative when you should have just continued to play aggressive. When somebody loses, we got a bunch of fans out there that are expert monday morning quarterbacks Ultimately, everyone argues over "Style". For me, I liked that they went aggressive in passing.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
He asked Morris to run Staley's defense. Don't think he has no influence on the defense. This is similar to offensive minded college coaches. They want a particular defense to be run that would work synergistically with the offense. This is why you have some coaches that ask for 2 high shells.. because they know they can score TDs and just need the defense to hold to scoring at the red zoby h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
Always have an exit plan before making judgments. It's easy to say fire someone... harder to find a replacement that works out. for every homerun hire comes many bad hires before. Rams could get someone that plays alot of aggressive coverages and end up with a low ranking defense. Stylistically, people may like that.. but then they may not like the results. Horrible on that 4th and 1 play. Refs pumped the clock, so they had more than 1 minute to get a play call in. And they still couldn't snap the ball in time. Mike McDaniel second guessing himself and these play calls.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
teams have schemed against this defenses now. NFL is ever evolving. Thought I read something where D-coordinators from the Fangio tree have fallen this year to be average to bottom half in defensive rankings this year. O-Coordinators adapted to run more short passes. Right now, these defenses only work against Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray who continue to refuse to throw the ball short.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
How many Lafleur's are there? Peter Lafleur is available too. His half time speech can be: "It's time to put your mouth where our balls are."by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
One factor is how good will the offense be? If the offense is still anemic.. then you may need a more aggressive defense. If the offense is prolific, then you have different schools of thoughts on what defense to run. The front 4 can also help with that decision. Weak Front 4, may need to go aggressive on coverage and blitz package. Strong front 4, maybe go 2 high and mix underneath.by h2omelonhead - RamsFootballFans.com
