It's a fair point. Though the guy they took at 57 last year- Van Jefferson- played quite a bit out of the gate. I would definitely expect a pretty finite role for Atwell early on and hopefully expanding it as the season progresses. Look at fringe roster players like Demby, Webster, Lawler, Banks, etc. $780-850k savings each if/when released. Do both Shelton and Allen make it? Maybe, maybe not. Same thing. The Rams will definitely not be in the top half of the league in cap space in 2022. But they'll hardly be in 'cap hell' either. Really, cap hell is sort of a '90s NFL term, isn't it? I can't recall hardly any teams really being in that spot in recent years. Always great to get your perspectives (before and after the Draft). With Atwell it sure would be nice if he also had return experience. I agree that he's really a WR5 and gadget player. Now could that role equate to 45-50 touches that make good thing happen? Sure. But I agree I would not have used #57 there- regardless of if someone in the low 60s wanted him or not. Probably not in the 2nd. But those extra lower round picks can definitely help them move up in the 3d-5th rounds for guys they want. This is not a team that will need 11 draft picks next year. So packaging 2-3 to move up and fill needs (OL...) would make sense.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com

I think most would consider the Rams to have drafted pretty well overall (especially without 1st round picks) since 2017. So how many of their draft picks have actually made an "immediate impact?" I loosely set the bar at 300 snaps as a rookie. I am less concerned about LT for 2021 because (a) Whitwworth was still a top-5 LT last year and (b) Noteboom is a capable fill-in. I like Brewer and Anchrum too. I think the needle is pointing up for both. But it doesn't change that they now are relying on guys with 17 and 3 career NFL snaps, respectively, to be top backups and ready to fill in as needed.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com

Along the lines of how the Rams drafted well in middle rounds in past years and now HAVE TO draft well in those rounds. How Woods, Kupp, Donald and Ramsey have been excellent players and now they all HAVE TO be excellent players through 2023. Looking ahead to 2022 on offense OL is definitely their only need. Defensively you can look at CB (though if they can keep Williams scratch that) and ILB (added Jones this draft, plus seemingly an easier position to backfill). We should assume Whitworth retires. I don't care how fast you are you have to at least have a bit of something on your frame. Desean Jackson weighed 169 at the combine in 2008 and has been in the high 160s in his carer. Tavon Austin was 174. Tyreek Hill, by the way, weighed in at 185 when he was drafted. Whatever Atwell is now, 168ish had better be in their plans for him.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com

I took a look at the latest 2022 projected NFL compensatory picks chart from OverTheCap now that the official "free agency window" has closed. ...is that the bottom three here also were the bottom three as far as draft capital entering the Draft. Difficult to overcome. See Tankathon NFL Draft Power Rankings I was shocked Seattle just stood pat with three draft picks. One thing they have going for them in 2022- they will enter the offseason with 11 draft picks. Now 8 of those 11 will be day three picks but still. It is more ammo to either move up for someone or maybe trade a pick or two for an established OL. And, presumably, they'll be in somewhat better financial shape.by LMU93 - RamsFootballFans.com
