AD has the right to hold out and he is doing what he thinks is best for his career. I never have doubted his commitment to the game or the team. I think his agent is leading him down the wrong path but ultimately it is on him to make the choices It think the Rams should play hardball and use the CBA to the Max or get him to sign a good compromise deal at around 20-22mil with a high guaraby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think there were numerous factors in the Suh signing. 1. The could get him and had the cap space. 2. He is a great player, not good great 3. Can’t count on AD playing so need to hedge our bets 4. If everyone plays we are totally scary up front. If no AD we are still really good. I love the Suh signing whether we have AD or not but if AD doesn’t show up it makes this signing a neceby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Great post 43 I didn't know we could franchise him for 3 years. I think he goes on the trade market for a couple of 1st rounders and maybe a 2nd. Big price let his agent go an find a deal. We can sign Suh long term and still have a really good Dline. My stance would be take the deal which is a good deal that we are offering or play according to the CBA or find a deal in the openby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
If they can't get a deal done it is all about AD agent wanting to not just set a record but destroy a record of earnings. These are the same guy that held Bosa out over a rookie deal. AD is the best defensive player in football and the Rams are offering to pay him as such. Reasonable people get a deal done and the Rams are being reasonable. The NFL has become to political and most people just want to watch and talk Football. They have turned off many of their viewer with the Anthem controversy which is not smart. NFL needs to cherish all their fans and market to them effectively If the NFL wants to make social statements is should be a statement that all fans will appreciate like curing breast cancer. Goose you are right on. Plus AD is taking all the risk against injury or paying through the nose for insurance. Based on the numbers you would think that reasonable people can get a deal done. AD agents may be have an agenda to set a record by a 25% -30% above the previous highest contract. I would be tempted to tell the to shop AD at a cost of 3 1st rounders. 21 Mil is 10% higher than the biggest contract for a defensive player ever. AD agent is insulted? Was that the opening offer? What else is he going to say when he is trying to get to 25 Mil Reality: offering the highest contract ever by 10%+ for a defensive player certainly isn't insulting and is a great offer. QuoteRockRam If Donald wants to hold out past Aug. 7, the Rams need to simply stick to the CBA and never let him earn another dime of NFL money until he relents. While admittedly none of us knows all the true facts, some things eventually start to get clear. 1) Rams aren't cheap. 2) Rams are willing to pay top of the market. 3) Donald wants more than top of the market, he wants to re-esby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Quotezn QuoteThe Rams have demonstrated they are willing to pay at the top of a position market – as they did with Gurley to reset the running back market – or competitively by making Cooks among the highest-paid receivers in the game. It stands to reason they’d do the same for Donald, coming off a 2017 season in which he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and racked up 91 quarterbackby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
They should fine him to the max if he doesn't show up. Guy has been banged up each of the last couple of years He is on the downside of his career and has no leverage other than to retire.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't see any reason why AD would be in a rush to sign. I think the August 8 deadline regarding his service time and that start of training camp are the pressure points where we might see a deal. Pressure is off Demoff a bit after signing Gurley and Cooks. He can go the Franchise root without and keep AD for 3 years and justify it now (Goff/Peters) if he has too. He has all the leverageby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com

LB and TE are the 2 places most likely to have breakout candidates as they provide the best opportunity for someone to jump up and take a job. At LB we have a lot of candidates and I would add Young and Kiser to the list. Hemmingway is now a 3rd year guy and has skills off the charts so he would get my vote.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Well he was great last year but still I am sure there were a few plays he wishes he could forget.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thanks for the pictures. Deacon Jones was my favorite Ram when I started following sports and the Rams. Elgin Baylor was my favorite Laker Don Drysdale my favorite Dodger. Deacon Jones and Elgin Baylor are all time greats at their positions both guys were so special compared to the rest of the league in their time.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Well this is a hard question. I am still catching my breath over what the Lakers did in the draft and free agency and watching Hart and Svi in the summer league. I am pumped about the Lakers though I think they blew it by not resolving he Randle situation so that he remained on the team. The Rams had a great off season and seem ready to compete for the title. There is no dominant team iby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
We do have a lot o players that are candidates for breakout We have 3 or 4 guys at LB A couple of WR All of our TE Hopefully we have breakouts in the TE and LB corps My darkhorse is Hemmingway.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I like the Sam Shields call out. I seem to forget about him and how good he can be. Putting 5 DB/S on the field that are all superior players can be really huge. Between LB and defensive backfield we have a lot of talented coverage options and a lot of speed. A healthy Sam Shields makes our defensive backfield insanely good. Without him it may be as good as any in football with him healtby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't disagree with Merlins insight but I think that the DL will be much improved with Suh and that the speed or the LB group which is superior will be allowed to run to the ball as the O line will be tied up trying to handle Suh and Donald. So I expect that we will be much improved against the run. Against the pass we still need to see how this group will compliment the defensive line inby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't really know right now that we have any real concerns other than LB and I think the word concern may be harsh. I think we have the players on the roster to do a real good job at that position but they are just inexperienced. The position will have competition for starting roles which other than RG and maybe TE all the starting jobs seem to be locked up at this point. That is a 20% bump over the previously highest paid defensive player. It might be a little high but that number would seem to be in the ball park of what is reasonable.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
5 year 80 Mil is a market based deal. It is about time that we were able to sign a FA for a market based deal. We could never get TruJo for a market priced deal. Donald team wants to set the market and since he is the best in football at his position that makes some sense but the question is how much does he break the market by. 10% would be 20Mil. QuoteCeeZar Well it does matter if the dispute is about money. Because history shows that disputes about money usually get worked out and disputes about playing time and other on-field issues usually don't. Regardless, the key word here is forced, as if the Rams would have no other options. They would have options and history would be their guide. Quotezn QuoteThe leverage is on the Rams side as Donald loses money if he doesn't sign with the Rams this year Unless he cares more about getting a valid deal than about short-term money per se. And that's pretty likely. After his year he will will have earned 6+M...enough to sit for a couple of years if it ever came to that. But how many players of Donald's stature have you ever heard of who jby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
The Rams can control Donald for 3 more seasons at a reasonable cost before he would become a unrestricted free agent. When he is a free agent he will be 30 year old so in all likelihood he will have a few peak years left. If we sign him to a 5 year deal we will have him for 2 extra years. So for 2 extra years it will cost us 9-11 million per year extra during the next 3 years. Thatby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
While stranger things have happened I think it all comes down to is he healthy and able to return to his previous skill level. If he is fully back he makes the team. Now him being fully back may be an issue or if there are lingering effects of the injury then there is a good chance of him getting cut especially if the young guys we drafted step up.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
