I believe the closest paved road was 30, 40 miles as the crow flies?
Hard to get away from paved roads these days. Even on my high Sierra Nevada backpacking trips you are probably no more, at any time, than 15-20 miles as the crow flies from a paved road. Although it would be TOUGH country, you'd need climbing gear, to go 'as the crow flies'.
I'd 'guess' the two most remote places I've been were at the 4 Corners area of the USA.... and the most remote would be in Alaska.
Been in some remote areas of Canada but NOT away from the paved road... just away from any town or city.
I think western Texas has some very remote areas... been there but only a few times. - Jimmy
