Maybe I didn't word it well.. there were only three songs he did that I did NOT recognize.. I recognized, or knew, all his songs except for 3.. Now, no way I could tell which songs they were, although, when he performed them he either stated they were on his first LP or were songs that he had not performed in a long time..
Entertainment-wise, he didn't do much.. just sat at the piano, got up after every song and acknowledged the crowd, then got a drink from what looked like a small table next to his piano.. When he got up and walked a bit, he looked as if he wasn't walking very well.. I think he had a hip replacement recently? He looked like it wasn't totally comfortable walking..
What was odd, was he appeared to have 3 drum sets on stage.. 2 on the stage level and another one higher up behind the front two.. He had his regular drummer and the guy on the other kit pretty much used mallets, not sticks, and was pretty much doing whatever the main drummer did.. the guy behind was more of a percussionist, but in Elton circles was well-known.. he and the mallet guy also sang backups..
He opened with Benny and the Jets, pitch dark onstage and he had that HUGE piano chord maybe 5 times then launched into the song.. those intro piano chords were HUGE and shook the arena.. Tiny Dancer was an encore, Rocket Man was in the middle, but had a pretty cool video intro with a launch countdown.. He left the stage on a moving platform that went backwards through the back video screen - a door opened.. It kind of reminded me of those stair chairs that older people ride up the side of stairs..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
