although every warning is different
did the warning come during daylight , where you can see what's happening , or , at night in a heavy downpour , where you can't see
I remember one time the wife and I was out walking the dog , and we were up by our church which is like 8 or 9 blocks away , and the tornado siren went off , it was fairly nice out , cloudy skies , but nothing ominous , so we turned around and headed for home , but yea , just like you said , on the way home , I think the whole town came outside and were standing in the streets , trying to see over the trees , took us for ever to get back home , because we stopped and talked so many times ............lol
also remember , the O.J. Simpson white Bronco chase , we were actually under a tornado warning when that was going on , at the time , my sister lived two houses from mine , her and he kids came over to my house , wondering if we should head for the basement , but we just ended up sitting in the living room watching the O.J. Simpson white Bronco chase , but mind you , we were still paying close attention to the weather ,and were all set up to head to the basement if the situation warranted
we have spent more then a few severe thunderstorms in the basement
most scared I ever got , was one evening I was at Menards , for those not in the Midwest , Menards is like a Home Depot or Lowes , and they have this huge lumber yard out back , and I was in one of the large lumber sheds when the rain and wind really picked up , then the tornado siren went off , and now the the wind and rain is coming down so hard you could hardly see ,loose stuff being tosed through the yard , but we knew we didn't want to stayed in that shed in a tornado , so we ran across the yard to the main store building , and inside the store they had the local radio station on the speakers , talking about the tornado warning , and then the radio just went dead , so everyone inside the store just looked at each other , and , ohhhhhh
to find out , Spencer never did have a tornado that night , but I live about 20 miles north of Spencer , and we had one about a mile north of my house that night , a small one , didn't do much damage , except for some outlying buildings
but yea , I was a little nervous that night for sure , I remember my wife calling my daughter to make sure she was ok , then her dialing home to see if our phone would ring , to make sure the house was still standing...................lol
