....that is the first Christopher Reeves Superman.... "YOU WILL BELIEVE A MAN COULD FLY"
Don't get me wrong... I enjoyed it back then. But it seems soooo corny now. And the sequels were a disaster. I think they took a couple of shots at Spiderman, and Captain America movies in the 70's & 80's, but those were bad too. The tech just wasn't there to make great super hero movies. And that's why I just love love love CGI. Can they over do it...? Sure they can... but it's very easy for me to look past that.
As a youngster, I was an avid reader of Conan the Barbarian. First the comics, then stayed with the novels. I couldn't wait for the first movie to come out. However, I was very disappointed when it did. Ol' Arnold blew it for me. Everything else was really good. No CGI back then, but the effects, the scenery, the other back-up character's...., heck even 'most' of the story was good....., but the main character just sucked. Don't get me started on Conan the Destroyer... LOL!
Fast forward, to when I first heard they were making Ironman. Another favorite on it's way. This time I know CGI was getting good, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. Not again. And then I caught wind that they were going to use Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. I was sooooo bumbed out. Yeah, I was aware that he was a good actor..., but he was all wrong for the part! Super hero's are big tall strongmen with squared of jaws n stuff. Not little smart-ass guys known for playing Charlie Chaplin doing coke, and doing time.....
How wrong was I...?!?! Downey Jr. proceeded to make that role his own to such a degree of success that the movie became the launching pad of the Juggernaut we now know as the Marvel Universe... I know that universe had always been there, but certainly not near where it is today. Ironman did that.
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the film, and still go back to watch it on a semi-regular basis....
