I'm not very 'in the know' these days about movies, haven't been for a long time... so here's my question:
When I'm browsing Netflix, Primevideo, Hulu, HBOMax, I recognize almost NONE of the movies they offer, (not talking about TV shows here)... and that confuses me. Did all those movies once play in actual movie theaters?
I know there are movies specifically made for direct release to DVD, or streaming services, but I have no idea what percentage are of that sort.
In my head I cannot computer how so many 'unknown', (to me anyway), movies have been made and continue to be made when the cost of making a movie is so exorbitant. How are they making money?
Also confusing to me: Many movies today are nearly all CGI... I would have thought that would mean a cost savings but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't check this regularly but every so often I'll read on IMDB the $ amount the movie cost to be made and it's VERY expensive, CGI or not. Odd that. - JamesJM
