Murray and Chase HAVE made me laugh, many times... but I get ya. Neither is a favorite of mine and both I find less than truly funny 'most' of the time... not all the time.
But in saying that I have to reveal myself as a real curmudgeon... most comedian's I put in that category. Some of the considered all time 'greats, (by most today), I sm so-so about... comedians like Belushi, Farley, and I find the new 'legend of comedy' Will Ferrell the least funny of all... but again, he HAS made me laugh, several times.
In hopes of warding off some criticism of my opinion, (not really, let me have it)... I don't 'dislike' any of those mentioned... I also admire them all - "to some extent".
So, just for the heck of it... a few comedians that I found to be funny nearly every time I saw them, (don't think any of these I found funny every single time)...
Jack Benny
Richard Pryor (not his movies, although I liked some of them)
Laurel and Hardy
Leslie Neilson
Norm McDonald
Some of those are very old so ya might think I'm very dated... preferring older comedians, and in saying that I think you're mostly right. BUT... there are old legends I didn't find all that funny 'most' of the time.. Charlie Chapin, Harold Lloyd, Even Abbot and Costello... but again, at times each of those had me in stitches... just not as often as the others I listed.
