WAY back in '69 I was on a road trip back to NY to catch a plane to Europe.... along the way we stopped in Arkansas, (can't remember where in Arkansas but near water). It was a campground and we threw our sleeping bags out on the ground.... the humidity was almost unbearable but luckily there was a water faucet nearby and we took advantage... getting up about every hour to soak ourselves. But that wasn't the 'bad' part.... in fact, it was nothing compared to the:
Cicada's, I think they were? I've been to heavy metal concerts quieter than those insects. For those who don't know about them, (I'm guessing it was Cidadas, might have been some other insect, or perhaps many different insects), the cacophony is ear splitting.
We have crickets here.... they don't even move the DB meter compared to Cicadas. First time in my life, and since, that I longed for a motel over a campground. Although, I'm not sure even walls would have dampened that sound. - JamesJM
