I think we had a widow unit in the living room for one summer , I can still remember my grandfather coming over to help put it in , never had in any of the other rooms , I think it was the next summer we got central air , I think that was about the same year we got thick green shag carpeting
the one little trick I always remember , we had wood floors when I was little that were always cool from the basement below , and I would always keep two pillows , I would place one on the floor to get cool , and trade off with the one in my bed , till I fell asleep
