I know the rules are the rules. My point is some rules are just plain silly. Because of that I do have sympathy for her. Same with the arcane rules by the NCAA re
amateurism. The Supreme Court got that one right a few days ago. I have tons of sympathy for athletes who are disciplined for a stupid rule violation that is long overdue to be eliminated. By stupid rule I mean a rule that a violation of which has no impact on the integrity of the game. The Olympics come only every 4 years and to kick someone off the team because she did something perfectly legal in the state she was competing in and that has no impact on her sport? You bet I feel for her. Much like I feel for a golfer who inappropriately signs a scorecard and is disqualified when there is no intent to cheat.
