My only point is that it makes no sense to not include alcohol use as a criteria for discipline if you are going to discipline athletes for conduct unrelated to performance enhancing substances.
Simply put if your mission is to promote role models alcohol abuse is no different than MJ abuse. All the more reason why the real reason Richardson was suspended was because of the outdated notion that pot is in fact performance enhancing. If that was not the reason then the IOC runs into the issue of why alcohol abuse is not considered. Certainly alcohol abuse is harmful to the athlete and does not display being a good role model.
She should IMO be given a medal for owning up to the rule and admitting the violation and taking the discipline-no matter how painful it is. She didn't try and blame a false test or someone other than herself.
The only issue is why is pot considered by the IOC to be a performance enhancing drug.
I'll throw out two reasons, been fascinating reading the back and forth , and my.comments.while pure speculation could be why.
Ski Jumping takes nerves, the relaxing properties of an Indica strain might help a competitor relax before doing something the old Wide World of Sports called the agony of defeat.
Sativa strains help with creativity I've read and might that help the contestants in skateboarding.
Just guesses and there are other Olympic competitions Sativa or Indica or Hybrid strains might help an athlete compete.
