Seed is going to be the same road you've traveled. Sod is already set, it's grass, like I said watering is paramount for it to continue to live, but once it's settled "in" it should be ok. For such a small area I wouldn't think the expense would be that bad compared to wasted time, effort and money on seed, fertilizer etc. that goes with going from seed.

  Here in Florida, it's VERY VERY hard to get grass to grow under a Live Oak.
