Having a yard can be a ........PAIN IN THE GRASS!!!!

January 23, 2021 08:23AM
Seriously...... No less than 4-5 times have I reached the point with my yard where I say......... "SCREW YOU!!! GO AHEAD AND DIE!!!" For me, that time is usually late April to late June. We can go a long time without rain and under VERY hot n dry conditions. Not sure what your grass is like but when I divorced my ex in Jan 2008, I swore I would never freak over a yard. I USED to have a large corner light with PERFECT St Augustine Grass. That crap is toooooooooooooooooo high maintenance. My yard now?? What grows grows. I have some St Augustine grass, Bahalia, and 3-4 different types of weeds. When it gets dry in April -June, I water it just enough to keep it alive. THEN comes our humid / rainy time which brings fungus. Throw in periods of dry weather that triggers chinch bugs. In Florida, you can EASILY spend $$$$$$$$$ in one year if you baby a St Augustine yard.....and it STILL might crash n burn.

Long story short........Let weeds grow. Keep em cut and nobody will know. From late June till about Thanksgiving, my yard looks as good as my neighbors across the street who baby their yard ($$$)

sstrams151January 23, 2021 09:21AM

  Lack of sun

IowaRam147January 23, 2021 09:33AM

That's a huge part of the problem..

sstrams145January 23, 2021 09:20AM

It's probably NOT gonna grow under a tree.

Ramgator129January 23, 2021 09:41AM

  Well, in our case..

sstrams139January 23, 2021 11:46AM

In really small area of ground you may consider putting down sod.....

roman18152January 23, 2021 08:58AM

Yeah, several neighbors have done that..

Yeah, I know watering is key with sod..

sstrams224January 24, 2021 06:04AM

Here in Florida, it's VERY VERY hard to get grass to grow under a Live Oak.

Ramgator186January 23, 2021 09:16AM

  Yeah, that's the problem...

sstrams144January 23, 2021 09:27AM

In Florida and I KNOW in Texas, the big trade off is SHADE in the Summer.

Ramgator333January 23, 2021 09:47AM

  Still no sun here..

sstrams166January 24, 2021 06:05AM

We do have a lot of clay around here..

sstrams142January 25, 2021 05:36AM

Clay?? Try different types of Centipede seed.

Ramgator147January 25, 2021 08:09AM

  Just looked it up..

sstrams151January 25, 2021 08:20AM
