We have been in this house for almost 9 years. We HAD to remove ALL of the Water Oaks. Close to TWENTY of them. Water Oaks have a span of 30-50 years and many in our yard were there. They are ticking time bombs. They look ok on the outside but can be MUSH on the inside. The largest tree in our yard was about 80 feet tall and a good 5-7 feet wide. HOW that thing was standing was beyond me. The inner 75% of the lower trunk was black goo. AAAANYWAY.... I LOVED the shade in the Summer time. It REALLY helped cool the house. BUT...We held our breath during any storm with any wind. Our yard was 90% dirt because there were so many trees. I would STILL take a partial dirt yard for some trees that are durable and not too close to the house.

IowaRam149January 23, 2021 09:33AM

sstrams146January 23, 2021 09:20AM

It's probably NOT gonna grow under a tree.

Ramgator130January 23, 2021 09:41AM

  Well, in our case..

In really small area of ground you may consider putting down sod.....

roman18155January 23, 2021 08:58AM

Yeah, several neighbors have done that..

Yeah, I know watering is key with sod..

sstrams227January 24, 2021 06:04AM

Here in Florida, it's VERY VERY hard to get grass to grow under a Live Oak.

Ramgator188January 23, 2021 09:16AM

  Yeah, that's the problem...

sstrams146January 23, 2021 09:27AM

In Florida and I KNOW in Texas, the big trade off is SHADE in the Summer.

Ramgator335January 23, 2021 09:47AM

  Still no sun here..

sstrams168January 24, 2021 06:05AM

sstrams144January 25, 2021 05:36AM

Ramgator149January 25, 2021 08:09AM

sstrams153January 25, 2021 08:20AM
