and just throw in the towel.. Last year I posted a fair amount with my battle to get grass to grow in our front yard underneath a Live Oak tree.. It took me from March until about September and FINALLY got it all filled in.. Keep in mind my front yard is maybe 25' x 25', so pretty small..

In the battle, I planted grass seed at least 5 times.. the first time a torrential rain came the same night and washed all the seed away - it hardly EVER rains here and when it does, its a sprinkle, unless a tornado is accompanying it..

so, the entire yard was growing grass... for about a week and then it started slowly dying off, no matter what I did.. before too long over half the yard had died..

So, fast forward to January 2021.. its been BEAUTIFUL here for the last month.. tons of sun, in the 50's, or so... So, I decided last Monday to reseed the front yard and take advantage of the sun angle, which during this time of year illuminates the entire yard.. So, I reseeded the whole front yard last Monday afternoon..

So, I get up the next morning and its completely overcast.. No sun, at all.. its now Saturday and we have not had ONE second of sun for 5 days since I planted those seeds.. totally unheard of around here.. unless I'm planting grass seeds.. I'm expecting a torrential rain any minute now..

Some of man's accomplishments are amazing, but for some reason, growing grass in my front yard is never going to happen.. it should be so simple.. but everytime I lay seed down, some weird weather anomaly screws it up..

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..

sstrams153January 23, 2021 09:21AM

  Lack of sun

IowaRam148January 23, 2021 09:33AM

That's a huge part of the problem..

sstrams145January 23, 2021 09:20AM

It's probably NOT gonna grow under a tree.

Ramgator130January 23, 2021 09:41AM

  Well, in our case..

In really small area of ground you may consider putting down sod.....

roman18155January 23, 2021 08:58AM

Yeah, several neighbors have done that..

Yeah, I know watering is key with sod..

Here in Florida, it's VERY VERY hard to get grass to grow under a Live Oak.

Ramgator188January 23, 2021 09:16AM

  Yeah, that's the problem...

sstrams146January 23, 2021 09:27AM

In Florida and I KNOW in Texas, the big trade off is SHADE in the Summer.

Ramgator335January 23, 2021 09:47AM

  Still no sun here..

sstrams168January 24, 2021 06:05AM

We do have a lot of clay around here..

sstrams144January 25, 2021 05:36AM

Clay?? Try different types of Centipede seed.

Ramgator149January 25, 2021 08:09AM

  Just looked it up..

sstrams153January 25, 2021 08:20AM

My Dad's yard had lots of clay and some sandy soil......and plain ol dirt.
