If Saban wanted Derrick Carr he would have been playing for Alabama. Today a Derrick Carr would not be playing for Fresno St. And isn't that the real problem ?
I don't understand the comparison of football to education from a university standpoint other than educational pursuits should also be available to scholarships.
BTW: I do understand your concerns with Fresno St. living where you do. In many ways it's like Friday Nights Football on Texas. I envy you. Where I live many high school programs (football) have gone under. Our closest small college is Long Beach State College or UCLB no longer has a football program. I truly believe the scholarly issue must be addressed.
