and never can have. There is more to NCAA football than just the National Championship. In the NFL it's the SB, that's it... yes, there are some rivalries... and perhaps even a few of us left who take pride in a divisional championship, a conference championship, but not many of us, I don't think.
Read Waterfields post about him not seeing any need for a National Championship... interesting, I don't agree but it does make me think people view the NCAA very differently than the NFL... thinking it's the same, and it's not. So Waterfield has a point to me, in that regard.
Conferences Championships, Rivalries, are FAR more intense in the NCAA than they are in the NFL... IMHO of course, but I think it's in your face obvious.
GB vs Chicago in the NFL is huge, the rivalry. For me it doesn't compare to Fresno St. vs Boise... and Fresno St. vs Boise doesn't compare to Kerman High School vs Chowchilla High School.
There is a sense of fulfillment in your high school winning a division championship, your college alma mater winning a bowl game yet not even being considered for the National Championship, that is only possible in the NFL with a SB victory.
So I like an NCAA Championship... and at the same time I don't see it diminishing NCCA teams who don't, and perhaps never can, reach that game. - JamesJM
