and i never even got to try it.. But, I hear ya..
Years ago there was a locally owned Mexican restaurant here named La Pinata.. and they were ok.. typical mexican food place.. We would go there maybe once every two months....
But, one day we tried this stuff called Carne de Puerco, which is typically not something I'd normally order, and I swear the clouds parted.. I have never tasted anything so good in my life.. Perfect pork, most awesome seasoning ever.. Food of the Gods.. it was crazy.. we went from going there once every two months to going at LEAST twice a week.. one day we did breakfast, lunch and dinner there and I ordered the same thing all 3 times.. We got to be good friends with the owners and it was family recipe for Carne De Puerco, so that recipe only resided in the owner's head..
..and, of course, they went out of business.. Most horrific day in my life.. worse than second degree burns.. a complimentary second kick in the nuts came as I had just gotten a gift certificate there which would have covered two meals.. totally unused - there was no heads up that they were closing..
That was probably 9 years ago.. I still crave that stuff EVERY day.. my wife called the owners once, maybe 5 years ago, and they made me a batch and I almost didn't want to eat it.. I wanted to send it to a lab and have the ingredients analyzed.. but I caved and ate every bit of it and even licked the plate..
Things have never been the same since.. Now there is an Italian place in town tha thas the best lasagna I've ever had.. locally owned.. we're friends with the owners and staff, and I have two gift certificates there for $100 each.. This is starting to sound all too familiar.. if they go out of business I will have NOTHING to live for..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
