There are a lot of countries that handled it far better than we did. And they are very diverse places. New Zealand is nothing like Japan and it's not very "country first."
Plus there ARE places in the USA than handle this better than what you are describing there.
Bad policies are bad policies and if your leadership in your area screwed this up, that's on them. It's not human nature, it's not being American, and so on. It' s poor leadership with bad policies.
Places with better leadership are doing better.
And I am not talking about party affiliation either. There are places run by both parties where the leadership was able to get the message out, convince people, and lead them.
