Am I hooked? I don't know... maybe, maybe not.... but my reasons for that are probably not what you're thinking.
First... it's very well done, no doubt about that. And 4 episodes into "Longmire", which I loved and binge watched thru the entire series, I wasn't hooked on it either.
But, there is a difference... some of the violence in this series is so graphic, and disturbing... I am struggling with it. You could counter me with "so was Longmire"... but it's different, to me any way.... and in saying that I'm not sure I can justify it. For now all I'll say is... anything dealing with child abuse, especially at this level, is very uncomfortable for me.
There are many similarities, however. Actually it takes off in so similar a manner to Longmire I had to check to see if the same people wrote it. I very much suspect they coped the formula of Longmire.
And then there is this... an 'oldie but goodie' topic.
I've lived my life 'rural', as you know. Only times I lived in a city was when I was in the Army and a little while in college. And even then it was more 'town' than 'city'. What I'm getting at is: I can much more easily relate to the characters in Longmire, (I grew up with them), than those in "Bosch"... who are very mysterious to me. That is NOT criticism of the quality of the show, however... it's just clarifying "me".
No doubt I'll watch more episodes... probably most of today.... but the entire series? I dunno... I guess it depends on how many more scenes like the graphic depiction of the child abuse I'll have to struggle through... I'm over my limit now, so I just don't know.
Guess i should wrap this up by saying I think it's an excellent TV Show.... my issues are 'personal' and NOT related to the actual quality of the show, which I believe to be top notch. - JamesJM
