Below your grandmother's house and next to the breakwater is Cabrillo Beach. To the right alongside the cliffs is a rocky shoreline. When I was attending LBSC I, and a few other brave souls, would walk there at night and then dive off shore for lobster. We would then sell them to local restaurants and markets. Paid for text books, etc. If you recall there is a buoy with a light roughly a qtr mile out from shore. It's there to guide ships around the rocky point and breakwater. Not sure its operational today but "back in the day" it also worked as a fog horn. In the late 50s and early 60s many of our spearfishing championships were held at Cabrillo beach and that buoy sat on top of a reef about 40-60- ft below. Many a fish were taken off the bottom of that reef.
